What do you love about the game of rugby? I take pride in competing against other high schools and making a name for La Jolla HS Rugby. The aggressiveness and adrenaline rush involved in rugby is what I love most about the game.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?I was selected to play on a U18 team for Nike Rugby Camps where we got to travel to Sydney, Australia and play against three clubs over there. The experience was so much fun and being able to play rugby in Australia was something I’ll never forget.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I hope to play rugby in college at the D1A level and travel the world to play rugby. Playing for USA professionally is also an aspiration I am striving for.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love the physicality of the game and the camaraderie with the other players.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory is the SCYR End-of-Season Tournament where the team really gelled together and played hard.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I want to continue playing and help evangelize the game to my friends that play football, so they can get involved in the same sport that I love.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love the culture and discipline that rugby instills with the team and respect for one another and our opponent.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory is scoring four tries versus Los Alamitos High School.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I would love to continue playing rugby in college and possibly the National Team. I was part of the U18 Junior National Team this past winter in Colorado. My brother, Aaron Matthews, plays college rugby and starts for St. Mary’s Rugby.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love being able to play by the same rules as the guys, and being able to play all facets of the game — offense, defense, special teams.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory was making a try saving tackle 30m out, stealing the ball, making the run, and making the try scoring pass on the other end.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I want to go to college and play, play rugby for life, play club, play summer – just play!

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love that it is a very fast, physical, and technical game. It requires a lot of rugby IQ, player decision making, creating chemistry within the team, and teamwork. Even though it may be considered a barbarian sport, it is played by gentlemen — and it’s fun to play.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory is attending the IRANZ Camp in Palmerston North, New Zealand because it increased my level of play. I was able to meet other international players and I was coached one-on-one by former All Blacks.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I want to execute my kick plays better and to play in the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games.

What do you love about the game of rugby? I love being with and supporting my teammates, and playing my favorite game with good friends. I love passing the ball and scoring tries.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory is my first sideline tackle. Also, I loved when our team traveled to San Jose to play the Northern teams and won the championship up there. It was fun traveling with my teammates and playing new teams and testing our skill level.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I want to be the best player I can be and never give up. I hope to play at a college level and at the Olympics one day.

What do you love about the game of rugby? Everything. I love leading the team, teaching new players, learning from others and officiating to improve my skill.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?I have traveled to New Zealand and made connections there. I’ve also brought new players from different countries into the sport as President of Westview High School. I taught an exchange student from Italy who hadn’t ever played team sports into the game and that player intends to stay involved when he returns to his home.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I want to continue playing rugby throughout college and beyond. I am currently a Legion Academy U18 player and seeking to attend Mira Costa. My ultimate goal is to move on to a four-year college program and eventually play beyond that level.

What do you love about the game of rugby? I love the sense of camaraderie among not only my teammates, but everyone who plays and loves rugby worldwide. On the pitch, I loves the intense competition and the opportunity to lead and rely upon my teammates.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite memory/experience is making offloads to teammates to help them score their first tries — even when I could have held the ball to score myself.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby? I would like to someday play for the USA National Team and/or professionally, so that I can see the world while playing the game and interact with players who love the sport in other countries.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I would like to play in college and the MLR – then get my dual citizenship, move to Ireland and play on the Ireland 7s team.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love how intense the game is. No matter how rough the game gets – we all celebrate together after.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?When I was able to make a try saving tackle after the opposing player had ran almost the whole length of the field at the End-of-Season Tournament.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?To follow in the footsteps of my Uncle Isaiah and play at Life University.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite rugby memory/experience is traveling with the team. I loved seeing new places and meeting teams from all over the world.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby? My goals are to continue playing at the collegiate level, and to develop and enhance my technique and skills for the game.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I like the unique opportunity we had to meet and play with players from other clubs. When I first started playing, I thought it was a bummer because I wanted to just play for SLO, but this year it became my favorite part of competing.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?We had one day where we played three back-to-back matches. We had very little time in between matches and until the last match I didn’t get pulled from play at all. I was so physically tired, but it was such a fun day because there was no sitting around.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?Rugby has given me better tackling skills for football. Also, I don’t play football with an ounce of fear after playing rugby with no pads. Rugby takes a lot more courage. There’s nowhere to hide and no way to avoid getting tossed around no matter what size you are.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite experience was playing in and winning the LA International 7’s Tournament because we got to see new teams that we don’t usually see.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?Getting accepted to play for Eagles Impact Rugby Academy and proving that hard work pays off. Playing for EIRA in Denver and British Columbia and being invited to Ireland to play against Pro 14 Junior sides.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?Attend college and play for Norte Dame College of Ohio and then play professionally.

What do you love about the game of rugby?The family environment at Belmont Shore Rugby is the best. A lot of my cousins play for the club from U8 to U18 boys and girls. My dad and uncles coach for Belmont and I have uncles who play with the Men’s team too.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?Winning U14 Girls LVI 2019, NAI 2019 and LAI 2020. Wish we could’ve played at Tropical Sevens.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby? I dream of going to college on a rugby scholarship and play for the USA Women’s Eagles team.

What do you love about the game of rugby?I love that everyone gets to run and tackle and play in the game. Everyone has to play together and learn together to get better. I also love that I can have fun and let my skills show. Skills are built, not born.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite time in rugby was during last year’s 7s End-of-Season Tournament. I got a pass from a ruck, stepped a kid and trucked a kid, and then offloaded to my teammate for a try. It was awesome seeing everyone jumping up and down and cheering.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?My dream is to play professional rugby in MLR or France with Mikey Te’o.

What do you love about the game of rugby? I love the culture of rugby and the way each team becomes your family. I enjoy the fierce competition on the field and the way both teams come together after the game to shine a spotlight on good rugby playing. I like picking a Man of the Match with the other team and awarding a “trophy,” which from our team is a travel size deodorant for their sports bag.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?During my first season of U10 Summer 7s, an opposing team player grabbed me by both braids to keep me out of the try zone, which resulted in a penalty. I took the tap and go and scored that try. I got to tackle the braid-puller several more times during that game.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?I hope to play rugby in college and the dream is to represent the USA in international play.

What do you love about the game of rugby? Being able to run all over the place. I can leave it all on the field and after the game catch up on some laughs with friends from other teams.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?Playing in the Cal-State Games in 2019 with my old team the Aztecs. We got third in the tournament.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby? To learn and better myself as a player. My long term goal is to get a scholarship in college to play rugby and possibly play in the MLR.

What do you love about the game of rugby? I love how everyone is a family through thick and thin and how everyone is willing to help each other.

What is your favorite rugby memory or experience?My favorite rugby experience was probably my senior year in the first game with a brand new team I broke the gain line and offloaded to my teammate. He scored the first ever try for the team. He told me after the game that the game of rugby has to be played selfless — you need everyone on the team to score a try.

What are your goals or aspirations in the game of rugby?My goal is to grow the game and give back to the youth to make them the future. My goals are to make the USA U20’s and play college Rugby at Norco College — and maybe play for Major League Rugby one day!
